Our Recovery Technicians travel to hospitals, hospices, funeral homes and coroner/ME facilities to perform the surgical/aseptic ocular tissue procurement. Ocular tissue recovery requires extensive training and highly developed surgical skill. GEB’s recovery personnel perform both corneal in situ excisions (removing just the corneal tissue) as well as whole eye enucleations. Once the donated gifts are collected, our Recovery Technicians transport the eye tissue to the Georgia Eye Bank laboratory.
