ATLANTA, GA – January 23, 2024 – Georgia Eye Bank, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving vision and lives, has elected Richard Shackelford as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In this role, he will work closely with the current Chair, Bruce H. Varnum, to prepare to succeed to the role of Chair in January 2025.

Mr. Shackelford, a retired attorney, with a career spanning over 35 years, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Board. After retiring as a partner at King & Spalding LLP in 2014, he has focused on nonprofit board service. In addition to his service to Georgia Eye Bank, Mr. Shackelford currently serves on the Board of Directors for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and is a Trustee for the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority.

Throughout his career, Mr. Shackelford has represented health systems, academic medical centers, pharmacy providers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, health plans, managed care entities, and physician organizations in various legal and regulatory matters. His leadership as the national Practice Group Leader of King & Spalding’s Healthcare Practice Group, and his role as a Past President of the American Health Lawyers Association, underscore his commitment to the healthcare industry.
