Golf Tournament in Honor of Ernest R. Franchell, III

On March 29, 2013, the family of Ernest R. Franchell, III held a golf tournament at Dogwood Golf Course in Austell. All proceeds benefited the Georgia Eye Bank. We thank the family and all who participated for their most generous support. The event raised over $11,000 to help us continue our mission, providing the Gift of Sight!

Georgia Eye Donor Month

On February 26, 2013, representatives from Georgia Eye Bank, Inc. visited the state capitol to have a proclamation signed by Gov. Nathan Deal designating March 2013 as Georgia Eye Donor Month.

2013 Georgia Eye Donor Month Proclamation


Eric Meinecke elected President of Georgia Eye Bank, Inc.

October 16, 2012 The Board of Trustees of Georgia Eye Bank is pleased to announce that Eric Meinecke, an experienced and highly respected eye banker, has been promoted to President & Chief Operating Officer. Eric will continue to report to Bruce Varnum, GEB’s Chairman & Chief Executive Officer. Eric joined Georgia Eye Bank (GEB) in April, 2011 as Chief Operating Officer as part of the Eye Bank’s management succession plan. Over the past year and a half, Eric has managed all technical operations including Donor Coordination Services, Laboratory and Technical Operations, and Quality Assurance. In his new position as President & Chief Operating Officer, GEB’s financial and administration functions will now report to him. Following graduation from the University of Colorado, Eric has held various positions of increasing responsibility at eye banks in Colorado, Wisconsin and Georgia. He is a Certified Eye Bank Technician and has served in various leadership roles for the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). Eric is currently Co-Vice Chair of the Accreditation Board, a member of EBAA’s Medical Advisory Board, and serves on the Finance and the Legislative & Regulatory Committees. Eric and his wife, Laura, together with their newborn son Owen, live in Roswell, Georgia.

Box 942322 Atlanta, GA 31141 Step 5: Tell your friends and encourage them to support organ, eye, and tissue donation with a Donate Life Georgia commemorative license plate. *Until 1,000 license plates are requested the state will not begin production of the special Donate Life Georgia commemorative plate. If the goal of 1,000 applicants is not reached Donate Life Georgia will issue each applicant a refund in the original amount of $25.00.
