| Corneal blindness results from
injury or eye disease. It is correctable with a corneal
transplant. Corneal transplantation, other eye
surgeries, and eye research can take place only if
someone gives the precious Gift of Sight. Take a moment
to consider eye donation and discuss your wishes with
your family. What do financial contributions to the
Georgia Eye Bank pay for?
The cost of providing our services is, at best, a
break-even proposition. While medical insurance
reimburses the majority of costs associated with
providing corneal tissue for transplantation, it doesn't
cover all costs to provide the Gift of Sight. Therefore,
the Eye Bank must rely on the generosity of foundations,
corporations, and individuals to fulfill its mission of
serving those with visual impairments.

|
How can I become an eye donor?
Tell your family of your wish to become an eye donor.
Your family will be asked to consent to eye donation
after your death.
If I have eye problems can I still be an eye
donor?
Yes. Even if you wear glasses or contact lenses, have
glaucoma or cataracts, your eye donation can provide the Gift of Sight.
If I have been diagnosed with cancer can I still
be an eye donor?
Yes. Cancer does not automatically prohibit you from
being an eye donor.
Will there be extra medical costs to my family if
I choose to be an eye donor?
No. Your family will not have to pay any additional
charges related to your eye donation.
Will being an eye donor change my funeral
arrangements?
No. Generally, no one should be able to tell that you
have been an eye donor unless your family chooses to
tell them.
