SUMMARY:National Eye Donor Month
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, the eye banking community promotes the month of March as National Eye Donor Month in order to encourage eye donation in the communities that it serves. The first National Eye Donor Month was observed in 1983 as a result of a proclamation read by President Ronald Reagan to note this special public awareness month. Since then\, a member of Congress has continued the tradition and reads a proclamation into the Congressional Record each March. This year\, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Representative Joseph Pitts (R-PA) will enter proclamations into the Senate and House of Representatives\, respectively\, proclaiming March 2012 as National Eye Donor Month.

SUMMARY:29 Cosmetics & Georgia Eye Bank
DESCRIPTION:29 Cosmetics begins the holiday season by partnering with the Georgia Eye Bank to launch their first Gift of Sight Give-Back Program. The cosmetics line will contribute five percent of sales from all eye products purchased between November 1\, 2011 and January 1\, 2012 to the Georgia Eye Bank. An organization that continues to help so many\, the Georgia Eye Bank provides corneas for transplant and other refractive surgeries\, sclera for glaucoma and oculplastic surgeries and human eye tissue for sight-saving research and training. 29's Gift of Sight Give-Back Program is a tribute to Mondavi's paternal grandfather\, Y.T. Abernathy. The driving force behind Georgia Eye Bank's maturation\, Abernathy elevated the Eye Bank from its developmental stage to become one of the most highly respected eye banks in the United States. Dedicated to community service and helping those without sight\, Abernathy received the auspicious Heise Award in 1985\, an honor presented to non-medical eye bankers in recognition of their outstanding devotion to the Eye Bank Association of America. SUMMARY:National Donor Sabbath
DESCRIPTION:National Donor Sabbath is observed on the Friday through Sunday that falls two weekends before Thanksgiving. The 3-day observance seeks to include the days of worship of most major religions practiced in the United States. Faith leaders participate in services and programs to increase awareness of donation and transplantation and the critical need for donors. Nearly every religion in the United States officially supports organ and tissue donation or supports the individual choices of its members. Donation is viewed by most religions as an act of compassion and generosity. Temples\, churches\, mosques\, and other places of worship observe the National Donor Sabbath in their own ways.
